Friday Five: The Destroy Everything You Touch Edition

There is no catchy meaning to the title of this edition, just that I’m listening to Ladytron. Still… maybe there’s some sort of resonance? Anyway, on to the round up, which has been a long time in the coming.

1. It’s been a while since I’ve done blog of the week but something I noticed as I was last compiling posts for this a long time ago was how much I was including from Celeste at A Literary Escape, despite not having a huge amount of book taste in common. She’s just a very incisive, thorough reviewer, as you can see from these reviews of Axie Oh’s The Girl Who Fell Beneath The Sea and Megan Bannen’s The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy. She’s also doing her bit to support the book blog community, as you can see from all the guest posts she’s hosted recently.

So have your own literary escape and check her stuff out.

2. Reviews!

Thomas Howard Riley’s We Break Immortals didn’t work for me, but go to Before We Go to see how it worked for them

Looking for something thought provoking? Athena at One Reading Nurse recommends Exhalation: Stories by Ted Chiang

Congratulations to Fabienne at Libri Draconis for landing her entry point into publishing, and in her honour, her last review round up

Over at the Corner of Laura, Laura goes into depth on her not exactly positive thoughts on Chloe Gong’s These Violent Delights

Last but not least, Tade Thompson talks about The Sandman

3. Reading stuff

Got any thoughts on canon? Alex Hormann does

An article on how modern poets are taking inspiration from ancient Arab poetry

This collection of art from the Miskatonic University Spirit Photography club is very cool

4. Writing Stuff

5. Some esoterica

  1. Thank you so much for the shout out, Peat! It really means a lot, truly! I’d been feeling a little like these guest posters weren’t getting the engagement they deserved, so I appreciate you reading along and spreading the word on your blog. 🙂 And thanks for the review compliments. ^_^
